More 2017 Decorating Trends: Out with the Old, In with the New

Thursday, February 23rd, 2017

Century Furniture Living Room Accent Table SF5467 is saying a million yes(es) to marble this year.

We can now safely say that 2016 was quite an unpredictable year in terms of interior design. This year, you’re in for a ride as you are bound to push boundaries. The forecasts for this year are bold to the point of being jaw-dropping. There are trends that you need to say goodbye to and there are daring ones that you need to consider.

No to Antique

Yup. The pressure is no longer on when it comes to owning and displaying strictly antique pieces in any home. This doesn’t mean that you simply store the old pieces and just go buying new ones.

You will have to learn to pair the antique ones with some trendier pieces. It is wonderful to have a period as the starting off point but don’t stick to it exclusively.

Create a more aesthetically stimulating look that will harmonize with the rest of the mixed elements that you have in your home.

No to Oversized Furniture

Remember that ample space is more important than having large furniture. Oversized furniture often overwhelms – they are meant to be used only in the most spacious homes. If you have medium to small space, don’t overpower that limited floor area by stuffing it with large furniture pieces.

Just don’t. This year, you will have to use ideally-scaled pieces for your home.

Yes to Matte Appliance

The kitchen is an interesting room to design this year. The new look for kitchens is daring without being overconfident. Find objects or appliances with matte finish then strip away the walls and countertops of all other distractions.

Say no to surface sheen and other such attention-grabbing feature.

Yes to Marble Pieces

If you haven’t already noticed, Pinterest is showing a lot of marble pieces this year. This is a huge trend that you simply should not ignore.

Do you remember how the tile market used to be dominated by marble especially when it is paired with metal or wood? Marble-patterned fabrics and wall coverings are huge this year, just as marble and brass fusions are also a hit.

Yes to Jewel Tones

While beige is also acceptable this year, it can get dull especially when you are uncertain about what to pair it with. The best look for your walls is to add drama – use deep jewel tones such as amethyst, pastels and emerald green. These are also colors from Mother Nature which just cements the trend for 2017 that natural colors are also in.

Yes to Subway Tiles

One other trend that you can embrace – though not totally new – is the subway tile. This is a classic yet a versatile tile option which can work with many different styles.

This look is all about having an unexpected element in the middle of the rest of your design. The subway tile offers a great effect with any farmhouse kitchen. Just add a dark grout and you will automatically make the backsplash appear more graphic.

Subway tiles come in a variety of materials, finishes and colors. This is a wonderful way to fuse other design elements.

Yes to Smart Home Elements

People’s lives now revolve around equipment and devices. This is also true with our homes. You are bound to see more and more imaginative ways of infusing charging docks to spaces.

Say yes to smart furniture this year.

Tommy Bahama Home Living Room Flamingo Octagonal End Table 593-951 has emerald green top which is perfect when married with the sturdy hue that is brown.

The year 2016 was a blast when talking about home décor. It was a year filled with Nordic-inspired interiors and everything woven. With the first quarter of 2017 almost drawing to a close, it is about time that you begin exploring the latest decorating craze. Most homes have already embraced the elements that are in for this year so why be left behind?

Green Is Definitely In

Martyn Lawrence-Bullard, a celebrity interior designer is certain that green is strong this year; from emerald to lime green, to hints of this color throughout your home, it is the one color that can give life on default.

Go Tropical

It is also not a secret that the interior design industry gets most of its cues from the fashion runway. This year, the fashion trends set by Prada, Marc Jacobs, and Emanuel Ungaro are quite huge. These designers have embraced the lush, tropical beauty.

Tropical prints will continue to dominate fabrics and wallpapers this year. If large prints are a little too much for you – don’t fret – there are still throws that can show this same look but with smaller patterns.

Decorating this year is pretty much like buying a trendy piece of clothing, you have to consider what’s hip yet, at the same time, a classic design element.

Don’t Forget Texture

Woven designs are still holding strong from last year’s trend. Remember that texture is what makes a home more inviting so don’t hesitate to blend in some of it into your home.

Textures are becoming more interesting each year. You can see brass tables that have been brushed to fabrics, wallpapers and lighting fixtures.

A quick way that you can add texture to your home is to drape an interesting piece of wool fabric on a sectional or a loveseat. Leather would also become more exciting with this interesting piece.

Marble and Brass Fusion

Young Huh has forecasted brass and marble fusion as something big this year – and he is right. The trend is now dominant in many kitchens and baths throughout the country. This is no surprise as it is a combination that is industrial yet glamorous.

Unique Patterns

What could be more interesting than geometrics for this year? Your goal is to create an African, Asian, or even Indian patterns but make sure that you modernize them if you don’t want to appear too tribal.

You can carry over this quirkiness to your lighting fixtures this year. Let unique designs dominate your dining room. This room is a wonderful space to do something rare.

Muted Hues

If the thought of bold colors in your home mortifies you, then that’s okay, too. This doesn’t mean that you will not be trendy this year. If you’re feeling anxious about loud colors, then you can also go for neutrals such as camel brown, pale grays, beige and blush pink. These are super, super trendy this year.

Now let’s focus on gray. This was a huge color last year and it will continue to reign supreme this year. Look forward to different shades of gray, lots of gray white and deeper tones of this color. This is the kind of color that can add character to any home, one that would complement a wide spectrum of shades.

Say Yes to Bronze

If marble and brass are a huge combination this year, then bronze is a class of its own. This is a metal that can warm up your space while providing your home a classic, glamorous, even an enchanting look. This is the perfect metal to add to your lighting fixtures and accessories.

Use bronze decorative bowls, lamps and vases in the living room, dining room, even the kitchen.

Interior Design Trends – Are You In For 2017?

Monday, December 26th, 2016

Bernhardt Interiors Bedroom Chest 366-115 is made of teak that’s sturdy and ever reliable – great characteristics to begin your year.

As cliché as it may seem, it truly is the time for out with the old and in with the new. With the first month taking its rightful place once more this calendar year, don’t you think that it’s also time to take down the holiday décor to start stylizing your home for the exciting months ahead? Or is it your entire design that needs an overhaul? Perhaps the wall paint has had its moment for the longest time.

Looking through this year’s trends can be quite difficult especially when you’re trying to figure out the design that’s right for your home. For a little help, here are some of the bravest and most talked about trends for this awesome year –

Mind the Outdoors

Cleaning up the inside of your home might become your sole focus for the first month of this year but don’t let this be the case. The exterior façade style could beautifully represent what visitors would anticipate indoors. So whether you’ve chosen a traditional or contemporary setup indoors, it pays to set aside a little time for your patio, terrace, walkway, garden, the lawn, and every part that’s exposed to the scrutiny of other people.

There is a lot of work to do outside especially when it comes to setting up the furniture sets and the lighting fixtures. Let these design elements inspire the pieces that you also bring indoors.

Industrial Is In

Don’t think that you’re too late for this trend as it has been forecasted to become even more popular this 2017. Industrial means not minding the use of subway tiles on a raw concrete finish. Plastic and neon colors are also in since they mean you’re ready to break free from what’s conventional.

Everything gaudy is unwelcome this year.

Flexsteel Living Room Sofa Table 6722-04 highlights the industrial appeal that’s truly ‘in’ for this year.

Yes to Sustainability

This year, teak and other woods are making a huge leap towards center stage; this is, after all, their rightful place. The great news is that technology has introduced more eco-friendly and greener materials so rattan, wicker and bamboo are also highly sought.

Let There be Light

A beautifully-lit home is noticeable even from a mile away. This is because lighting can make a world of difference in terms of style and setting an ambience.

Make your home look amazing with the right lighting fixtures. Don’t focus on task lighting, have a little imagination this year and do have some ambient lighting.

The Leading Colors

Prepare for sophisticated colors this year because they are surely going to take center stage. See which among these colors you’d be most comfortable to use –

Reds, Blues and Greens

If you’re the social type, then you are going to love the shades of spicy reds, hazy blues and lime greens this year. The earthier the color for greens, the better it is. Taupes are also in as this is the go to color for traditionalists who are considering a contemporary setting.

As for the shades of blue, you could go for the Hamptons feel with dusky blue. Find paint, wallpaper, and textiles that represent the delicious colors of the ocean.

Blue green could be accentuated with punches of orange. This is the color combo to have for a more dramatic home this 2017.

Pastels, Grays, Yellows and Oranges

Pale pastels remain usable as are muted shades which introverts will surely love.

Lemon yellow is a wonderful, happy color to use inside rooms, this is if you’re willing to take the risk.

Shades of gray are the safest colors to use. These are solemn, rich shades that can help you safely set up the style of your home.

So, are you ready to embrace these tips this year?

Brave Color Forecast for 2017

Monday, October 3rd, 2016

BLOG 1. Cynthia Rowley for Hooker Furniture Living Room Sheridan Two-Door Chest 1586-50005-GRN

The green hue on this Cynthia Rowley for Hooker Furniture Living Room Sheridan Two-Door Chest 1586-50005-GRN is wonderfully prepped for 2017.

There is no doubt that color is an important element of interior design. It is one of the most influential aspects to human emotions. This is also the fastest way to update a room; what you need to do is just to apply a fresh coat of paint and you’re done. But what do different hues convey and what color forecast best fits the brave new year that is 2017?

Top Hues and Their Meanings

Red. This hue is often associated with determination, leadership and ambition. This can also connote physical desires which is why it is most used in many restaurants.

Pink. This hue represents intimacy, compassion and unconditional love.

Purple. This is the color of creativity and royalty.

Blue. This color represents loyalty, honesty as well as trust.

Orange. This bright hue is linked to optimism and motivation.

Green. This lively color represents vigor and energy. It is often used to create balance and stability.

Yellow. This is a hue that represents enthusiasm, fun, knowledge and hope.

Color Fundamentals

Color is affected by two aspects – the surroundings and the kind of light that shines on it. Try observing any room in your home. You’d soon see that the light is different during different times of the day. Comprehending how light can affect a space during different times of the day will give you the power to choose the correct color scheme that can be used all day through.

This same knowledge will also help you choose the best kind of lighting fixture for that room.

Now, the Forecast

There are many color forecasts that are being done each year but one of the most esteemed are the picks made by Pantone. The upcoming year’s Color of the Year picks are calming, soft and wonderfully romantic. Now don’t worry if those aren’t your exact wish as a color for your home.

Leatrice [Lee] Eseman shared a handful of color palettes that you could choose from. These are all predictably popular colors for the upcoming year that you can use to beautify your home. These colors were also chosen because they address the consumers’ craving for colors that are comfortable yet new. Design trends became inspirations for many of these palettes, so was the film industry (e.g. The Peanuts Movie, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, etc.).

So go ahead and make use of anything silver and metallic or anything bright and colorful (if Charlie Brown inspires you the most). Say yes to orange chiffon, melon as well as dove gray. Grape and lime are also good colors.

Apart from these, there will also be an abundance of florals this upcoming year. Floral hues such as red Dahlia or pink yarrow, plus any shade of green may be acquired tastes but they are beautiful and not-oft used colors.

Gray and red will remain popular in 2017. They will both appear in warmer hues with the backdrop being that of bolder colors.  Yellows that look perfect in a harvest setting will also get a lot of attention in the coming year. Yellow with hints of earthiness will look great and would be effectively grounded by classic red or blue.

Any youthful color is also a great choice in 2017. Now don’t be limited to the age-appropriate colors, rather, look for youthful colors with an attitude. So no matter what your age, you can use color palettes that are fluid and can easily morph in the 2017 surroundings.

Find celebratory hues that hail technology and nature. The former will continue to play a vital role in people’s lives. Evolving technology will continue to inspire ambience that is dark or in commanding grays.

Those who love deep plum would also find it a great news that the color forecast for 2017 also includes this hue.
