You can always begin beautifying your powder bathroom by filling it with polished and luxurious hardware. Make good use also of elegant and colorful tiles which are known to establish a Shangri-La-inspired look.
Remember that the powder room is the room where your guests freshen up. You can make a statement in this part of your home no matter how small it may be. Decide whether you would want to go understated, contemporary or traditional.
The powder room slash bathroom is also the perfect chance to show your bold side. You can afford to be excited about your design without affecting the rest of your home.
If you want to get this same look in your own powder bathroom, then you have to learn a few iconic elements of design –
Remember Patterns, Colors, and Prints that Enthuse
The best place to begin creating a bold and difficult-to-ignore powder bathroom are the walls. Painting those with a new color is an inexpensive and easy way to start. Try bright colors such as lime or go for the more saturated ones such as burgundy.
If you don’t want to commit to a completely new paint color, then you can transition with wallpapers. There is now a wide selection of patterns and prints to choose from. If you want to have an African-inspired powder room, then find a wallpaper that says so.
It’s All About the Play of Lights
That noticeable powder room must also be a well-lit zone. It must if especially if you want to show everyone your decorative pieces there. Put lights all around the bathroom mirror for a touch of Hollywood lifestyle.
You can also light the space up with an elegant crystal chandelier. Being bold does not necessarily equate to having an eccentric lighting fixture. It can also mean finding the right pieces that will play together with the rest of the design elements so that – all together – they are able to achieve a balanced room that makes a powerful statement.
Find Bling-blings
That bold powder bathroom is only bold if you also enhance it with ornate cabinet pulls or faucets. Find fixtures that strike you, those that really stand out. You can find a lot of bejeweled furniture pieces nowadays.
Cabinet pulls shaped like birds or fish are also available.
Startle with Artwork
Would you like to keep your guests in awe? Why let their amazement stop once they leave the living room? Make a statement with a bold artwork that will surely capture the attention of visitors.
Consider getting a nautical painting or any nature-themed piece. You can also display a replica of a famous artist’s painting.
The Vanity as a Focal Point
More often than not, the vanity is the focal point of a powder room, more so when you are emphasizing the bold move that you have made with your powder bathroom remodel.
Consider adding a high-end cabinet with dark, polished wood. A chrome wash basin would also be a nice addition.
Mirror, Mirror
Mirrors are known to add light, depth, and drama to any room. If you want your powder bathroom to be more amazing, then you have to know how to effectively use mirrors.
Adding a mirror can definitely alter the mood in your powder room especially, say, if it is reflecting a lovely crystal chandelier or a notable artwork.
Just be sure to hang the mirror where it matters the most.

Bathrooms are, without a doubt, one of the most popular rooms that are being renovated. They fall next to the kitchens when it comes to the number of projects that are done yearly.
Homeowners who sign up for bathroom renovations want these rooms to be not just functional but also stylish. Some even want luxurious finishes for their spa-like creations. You might even be more surprised to find out that homeowners who have bathtubs added in their bathrooms end up rarely using them.
A Question of Budget
One of the top considerations for bathroom renovations will always be the cost. Of course, the budget varies as this depends on many factors such as the region where the renovation will take place, the labor cost, the materials used, as well as the type of finishes chosen by the homeowner.
Typically, the budget for a master bath renovation is anywhere from $10,000 to $25,000. Many are willing to spend more but the majority of the projects fall into the bracket that’s given here.
Reasons for Renovating
There are many reasons why a homeowner would opt to renovate his bathroom. The most common are –
Most Upgraded Features
Most bathroom renovation projects are even thought of in the first place because there are major features that need to be replaced. Here are some of these –
Some homeowners who have added these features end up adding some specialized features as well. The master bathroom shower can have these extras –
Those who do update their showers end up with the more high-tech type. Homeowners also like adding mood lighting.
Popular Wall Finishes
Why shouldn’t you just settle for painted walls? While paint is alright, you must consider that moisture is your main enemy inside the bathroom. Moisture, when unchecked, could devastate some materials.
Vinyl wallpapers (they now come in peelable versions) are a hundred-percent waterproof. They are also easy to install since you can just apply and reapply according to your preference. What’s greater news is that they now come in the most sophisticated designs.
What’s a bathroom without you thinking of porcelain or ceramic tiles? These two are popular choices for a reason. First, they are also waterproof.
Second, ceramic and porcelain tiles offer a classic look to your bathroom. Did you know that ceramic has been used since the ancient Romans’ time?
The Overall Design
At the end of the day, the look that you consider for your bathroom is your own choice. A change in style could be because you would want your bathroom to become more stylish, spa-like, or merely to better reflect who you are.
An energy-efficient bathroom won’t be a bad idea at all, too.

Bathroom cleanliness is quite important to homes and more so to facilities. Unsanitary restrooms could be home to germs that can bring about allergies and a host of other diseases. This is the very reason why the bathroom should be cleaned every single day.
Repeat customers could be the cause of unsanitary bathrooms. Effects of unsanitary bathrooms could extend to employee productivity as it has been proven that unclean bathrooms can cause lower productivity. As a result, various aspects of the business can be affected by something that is as simple as a bathroom cleanup.
Germs can bring about allergies and a whole host of diseases. Begin cleaning from the vents and ceilings. Have them dusted for cobwebs. Make sure the dust from those areas reach the floor.
Next, have the mirrors and other wall pieces dusted, cleaned then polished. Make sure the hand dryers are disinfected, too. Use a disinfectant to clean partition doors. After these, move on to toilet bowl disinfecting. Disinfect the inner and outer parts of the bowl. Don’t forget the base.
Be sure to empty out the trash receptacles of paper towels and sanitary pads. Remove gum and other stuck dirt on the floor. Mop the floor and use a disinfecting solution.
Lastly, wipe hand plates, door handles, and kick plates.
These tips should help you clean the bathroom like a pro or at least know how to check right after a professional commercial cleanup.
Clean the Stained Bathtub
There are two things that you need to remember when cleaning a stained bathtub in hotels and other such areas – first, you have to know which stain removal technique you would use and; second, find out which products would be right for the tub.
The most common bathtub materials are enameled metal, acrylic and porcelain. If your bathtub looks like plastic, then it is most probably acrylic. If it looks non-plastic, it is porcelain, iron or steel.
To be able to tell the difference between porcelain and enamel, all you have to do is to stick a magnet on the side of the tub. If the magnet sticks, then it is enamel.
If you are removing stain from a porcelain tub, you might want to buy a pumice stick. This can scour the surface and could get rid of stains on porcelain toilet bowls. This scouring stick costs just $2.
Removing the stain from enameled tubs can be a bit more difficult. Pumice stick should not be used in such cases because they can leave permanent scratches. This is also true with anything that is acidic so say no to vinegar and bleach.
Abrasive powders may be used but be sure to test a part of the tub before you go all out on your cleanup. Use such powders sparingly, though. For tougher stains, make a paste with the powder then allow it to sit for half an hour before you rinse away.
If you want to be on the safe side, use the ever reliable hydrogen peroxide. It is cheap and it can make the bathtub look sparkly clean.
‘Out to clean an acrylic tub? Then know that this type is more prone to fading, scratching and cracking. Since this is so, avoid anything that’s abrasive. Use cream cleaners, again, allowing it to sit for half an hour before the actual cleanup.
Mildewy Walls and Flooring
Another serious, dirt problem in the bathroom is mildew. You can work like crazy each day, cleaning and scrubbing, but if it still stinks, then you have to look for the culprit. More often than not, it is mildew.
Find an anti-mildew solution then gently scrub the area. It helps if you let the solution sit for a few minutes before rinsing it off.

The bathroom – as opposed to common notion – should be a relaxing room in your home. If you want this to be the case for the bathrooms in your home, then be prepared to begin a makeover project. And what could be more fitting than a bathroom painting project?
Prepping the Bathroom
Preparing the bathroom for a paint job begins by cleaning the walls. There is soap scum and other substances that have surely been embedded to the walls and flooring of the bathroom.
Clean all stains from the walls by using bleach-based cleaning products. Allowing the soap scum to stay will only ruin your project. In the long run, the new paint job could easily peel off and you wouldn’t want that.
Another way to prep the bathroom for the major painting job is to remove the toilet tank. This may seemingly be a useless task to do but its removal will allow for flawless painted walls.
It is actually easy to do. That small space between the tank and the wall is difficult to reach with a brush so instead of settling for a lazy paint job, just have the tank removed and paint the walls with ease.
The seat section won’t come off, what you just need to remove in order to finish the paint job is the toilet tank. You can do this by turning off the water supply first right at the toilet base. Then, expel the water from the tank by flushing the toilet. Remove the tank using old towels all over the floor.
There you go – you’re done.
The Right Paint Color
Your best friends when you are about to paint a small bathroom are light colors. You can say goodbye to the dark colors since they will only make you feel claustrophobic. But don’t automatically resort to the white paint. There are plenty of light colors to choose from. If you wanna play safe, then go for pastels. Light yellow and light blue are also colors that will make the small bathroom appear more spacious.
If light colors are for compact bathrooms, then dark colors are welcome inside spacious bathrooms. Tiles in black, navy blue, maroon and the like would look great inside an expansive bathroom. There are also paint manufacturers that offer these chic colors.
See also if you can find paints that have mold-inhibiting agents in them. These will yield surfaces that are better resistant to moisture.
The Right Sheen
A flat sheen of paint could give you less than stellar results. But if you really have to do it, make sure you use eggshell white – and none else.
Remember the soap scum that you removed earlier? Bathrooms are susceptible to such stains so choosing a flat paint would only make this problem continue.
It’s time to choose a different sheen for your bathroom paint. There are not hi-gloss and semi-gloss paints that can be easily scrubbed.
Gloss Up the Shower
Should you consider painting the shower, then do so with high gloss bathroom paint. You can also tile all the way up to your bathroom ceiling. A gallon of high gloss paint should be more than enough to cover a small shower area.
‘Time to Paint
Begin by painting the ceiling. Use a brush on the edges where the ceiling and the walls meet. Use the roller type of foam brush for the rest of the paint job.
Allow for drying time then apply a second coat of paint, first on the ceiling, then onto the walls.
Do not forget to apply primer on the walls. A dark bathroom would be in need of this especially if you want to transform it into a bright, light-colored one.
Always follow manufacturer instructions for the application and drying time.
